REFORM LEADER PROMISES GREATER TRANSPARENCY

Rabbi Steven A. Fox, Chief Executive of the Central Conference of American [Reform] Rabbis, has promised to ” ‘enhance’ its ethics process and do a better job of alerting congregations when a rabbi has been expelled,” The Forward reported in November. Fox’s pledge followed an investigation by The Forward which found that when the CCAR recently expelled Rabbi Eric Siroka for sexual misconduct involving multiple women, the CCAR did not alert its general membership and only “minimally publicized” the incident in its newsletter. As a result, Siroka was able to secure a teaching position in a Jewish high school in another community (Seattle), where is his expulsion from the CCAR was not known.
